The study draws out stakeholder perspectives and values on locally significant coastal margin ecosystems, initially throughout the Marlborough region and then focuses on case study sites that will be identified through community engagement surveys, workshops and wānanga.
The Marlborough coastal margin ecosystems, especially the Marlborough Sounds area, are in a degraded state due to land-use intensification, with several studies showing further deterioration of habitats over recent years, with the remaining habitats likely to be adversely impacted by the effects of climate change and sea-level rise in the coming years. This is why it is important to adapt, act and prepare now for future changes and challenges.
