Simultaneously to drafting all of the previous documents and completing the required milestones, to progress from a possible candidate to an actual PhD candidate, I have been preparing my participatory engagement and research approach. This has meant thinking about how to structure workshops, wānanga and surveys.
But most importantly I have been thinking about how I will connect with the people that are the very heart of my study.
I have been making some small connections along the way and maintaining existing connections the best I can, but my hands are tied. I can’t commence until I receive my ethics approvals.
So to keep myself busy, I have been focussing on drafting my first review paper instead. I am looking at how established ecosystem assessment frameworks could work on different scales ranging from international to regional and local scales. Once this work is published I will of course share it here! But don’t hold your breath, publishing a journal articles is a long process and depending on how it’s received could take anything from 6 to 12 months!
